Piedmont
The Piedmont Region is located in the central part of Georgia. This region lies between the far northern mountains and the flat southern plains. Piedmont is also known to be the most densely populated region in Georgia. The two main rivers that pass through Piedmont are the Chattahoochee and Flint Rivers. The fall line is also located at the southern edge of Piedmont. Two attractions in Piedmont are the Warm Springs and Stone Mountain. The Warm Springs are mineral springs which stay at 90 degrees Fahrenheit all the time. Stone Mountain is the largest exposed mass of granite in the world. It was used by Woodlands Indians as a ceremonial place and is about two miles long and one mile wide.
Piedmont's has cool winters (57°F on average) and hot summers (89°F). Precipitation is greater in the north than in southern parts of the Piedmont, with spring, summer and winter receiving similar amounts of rainfall and fall being drier. Snow isn't unusual, but snowfall more than an inch or so is uncommon.
Some areas of the Piedmont is granite, which is mined in order to build tombstones, buildings, statues, and counter tops. The soil in some parts of the Piedmont is clay. Iron oxide gives some of that clay a red color. The main crop grown in Piedmont is cotton. A few animals that live there are opossums, squirrels, geese, ducks, woodpeckers, cardinals, blue jays and owls. the main trees that grow in this region are pine, oak, and hickory trees.
